Today, we’re proud to introduce what we believe are two of the finest red wines we’ve made to date. They’re not brand-new wines, but they come from a new vintage: the 2020 release of our Sommos Colección Syrah and Sommos Colección Cabernet Sauvignon a vintage we’re confident will make a lasting impression.
Sommos Colección Syrah 2020
This vintage shows an exceptional aromatic balance, combining floral, fruity (blackberry and plum), and mineral notes with a subtle animal nuance characteristic of the Syrah variety. On the palate, it’s powerful yet juicy, with refreshing acidity and great roundness, a wine full of balance, complexity, and personality.
A wine that truly expresses the character of this grape variety, offering balsamic notes, black fruit, spices, and beautifully integrated oak. On the palate, presents a range of flavors, perhaps the most harmonious vintage we’ve produced, masterfully balancing freshness and structure, power and elegance, intensity and finesse. It’s the very definition of a wine for the books, with remarkable aging potential.
The 2020 Vintage
The weather plays a crucial role in defining the character of wine and this is even more evident in our Colección range, as we’re talking not only about single-varietal wines but also single-vineyard wines, where everything is at stake in one single plot. And in 2020, it’s safe to say we won that bet.
That’s not always the case, some recent vintages from the same plots won’t even see the light of day, but today is not about those. Today is about celebrating a vintage we believe gave us two of our finest wines.
Spring 2020 brought abundant rainfall and several storms until June, while the autumn that followed was unusually mild throughout the vine’s cycle. These weather conditions shaped a vintage with a fresher, more balanced profile, encouraging healthy vine growth and tremendous potential.
All of this translates into a vintage that is balanced, expressive, and of exceptional quality perfectly aligned with the style of wines we aim to create: fresh, structured, and with excellent aging capacity.
