Alquez 2022 has once again established itself as one of the flagship wines of Sommos Garnacha after being awarded a Gold Medal at the 2026 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and receiving 92 points in the Guía Peñín 2027, two of the most prestigious recognitions on the international and Spanish wine scenes, respectively.
These accolades highlight the work carried out both in the vineyard and in the winery, as well as our commitment to crafting wines that authentically express the character of Garnacha and the singularity of their origin.
Sourced from old-vine vineyards located at over 800 metres above sea level in the D.O. Calatayud, Alquez is born in a landscape defined by steep slopes and soils of slate, schist and clay. These conditions, combined with respectful viticulture and a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, result in an honest and elegant expression of Garnacha.
Alquez 2022 stands out for its freshness, black fruit aromas and vibrant acidity, characteristics that bring balance, depth and remarkable ageing potential. It is a Garnacha that embraces subtlety and tension, moving away from more powerful interpretations to reveal a refined and highly distinctive personality.
The Gold Medal awarded at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles represents an important international recognition for the wine. Widely regarded as one of the wine industry’s most influential competitions, it brings together experts from around the world each year to evaluate thousands of wines from the leading wine-producing countries.
Meanwhile, the 92 points awarded by the 2027 Peñín Guide recognise both the quality of Alquez and its ability to authentically express the character of Garnacha from Calatayud. These distinctions reinforce the winery’s commitment to crafting high-quality wines from old vines that convey the personality of their terroir and the potential of one of Spain’s most emblematic grape varieties.
