- The prestigious wine publication has rated these two Garnachas from our winery, within the D.O.P. Calatayud, as “outstanding.”
- Five additional wines from the D.O.P. Somontano have also earned a place on the list, with the top scorers being Sommos Colección Cabernet Sauvignon (92) and Sommos Colección Syrah (91).
Araia and Tiaso, two wines crafted under Sommos Garnacha (D.O.P. Calatayud), have entered the renowned James Suckling International Rankings with outstanding scores of 94 and 93 points, respectively. The globally recognized wine critic and his tasting team included them—alongside six other Sommos wines—in their September 2025 Tasting Report, a distinction that reaffirms their quality and places them firmly on the international wine stage.
“James Suckling is a true benchmark in the world of wine, and we feel deeply honored to see our wines featured among the finest in the world. Scoring above 90 points is, without question, synonymous with excellence,” said our Marketing Director, Diego Mur.
Both wines originate from old, bush-trained Garnacha vines grown in Murero (Zaragoza). One offers a juicier profile, while the other is more precise and mineral-driven—both have captivated Suckling’s tasting team, who also awarded 90 points to Alquez, another wine from D.O.P. Calatayud.
The other five wines recognized in this year’s report include: Sommos Colección Cabernet Sauvignon (92 points); Sommos Colección Syrah (91 points); Sommos Colección Sauvignon Blanc (90 points); Sommos Colección Gewürztraminer (90 points), and Sommos Reserva (90 points)—all produced from pre-Pyrenean vineyards within D.O.P. Somontano.
How the James Suckling Ranking Works
Suckling and his team distribute the points according to this classification: color (up to 15 points), aroma (up to 25 points), structure (up to 25 points) and overall sensation (up to 35 points).
Wines that achieve 90 points or more are considered outstanding, while those from 95 points upwards are deemed must-try wines.
Each year, the James Suckling team tastes thousands of wines to identify and spotlight only those of exceptional quality. His scores have a decisive impact on a winery’s international reputation and are considered among the most respected distinctions in the global wine industry.
Suckling, a journalist and wine critic with over four decades of experience, previously served as editor of Wine Spectator before founding www.jamessuckling.com—a digital platform that has become a global reference for wine lovers and professionals alike.
